Old School vs. New School

Have you ever had a moment when you were listening to the radio and heard a new song, but for some reason it still sounds familiar??? Then you realize that it is from an older song, typically something that is now considered old school.
I have experience this feeling countless times. New age artist are constantly looking forefathers of music for inspiration, but my question is do they take it to far is by stealing their beats. I always thought of music as a form of free expression, but when you take someone Else's lyrics or beats then the cause just becomes lost. You don't even understand the purpose of the song anymore.
Since I came to this conclusion I also think that they should have to pay the originator of the beat in order to use their music for their songs.

So my question for you is do you think it is right for new age artists to take the beats from their forefathers before them or should they create their own sound???

Chrography+Lyrics+ A Great Beat=what???

So the other night I was thinking about all the good music artists that are out right now, from Lil' Wayne, to All American Rejects. I tried to figure out what exactly they have in common...NOTHING. I couldn't think of one quality that they shared, not one. While some specialized in the art of the base guitar, and others have the skill of choreography, they were all different in some way.
So my question is what makes a successful musician. Is it their music, their dance moves, or their "bad ass" reputation. I then took a moment and thought about it. The one thing that I found that all the artists shared was their love for music. That is where it all started. They have faith in their individual sound and loves it enough to share with the world. When musicians have confidence in their music then their fans Begin to as well and that to me is what makes a true musician.
So my question is What do you think makes a true music artist???

Shocking Sounds of Electrik Red

From Destiny Child, Danity Kane, TLC, to Spicegirls all of the girl groups have fell off of the planet, only one stands...Electrik Red. Coming through to shock and shake the R&B genre of hip hop. The group consits of Naomi, Sarah, Lesley and Binkie they are reprein' New York city and Canada Binkie and Lesley, who attended NYC’s prestigious Laguardia School of Performing Arts, met the Toronto born Naomi and Sarah while individually performing as back-up dancers for artists such as: Usher, Mariah Carey and Ciara.
After constantly running into eachother time and time again at parties and auditions they began to form a friendship. Even though their individual careers began with dance they all shared a love for music. This was where Electrik Red was born.
In February of 2008, that one shot came when Electrik Red secured a deal with Def Jam. The girls were then paired with the hottest hit makers in town, The Dream and Tricky Stewart, who had worked with everyone from Mary J. Blige to Beyonce. “We all looked at each other and said ‘Holy shit guys!’” remembers Binkie. “Look where we’re at right now!”
I love their girl group gimeic and homefully their here to stay. With the sassy independent woman attitudes they have a fresh style to their music and I'm really diggin' it. There name truley matches their music...ELECTRIC!!!!!!! So my question for you is do you think girl groups should be reborn or stay in the grave??? The Ting Tings

The Ting Tings orignally formed the group in 2004. They are from the lovely country of Salford, England.
The band consists of Katie White, who is the vocalist of the group and also plays the gutair and bass drums, and Jules De Martino, who plays the drums and is a vocalist as well.
They have currently released four hit singles from their record label, Columbia Records UK, which released my favorite two hit singles: "That's not my name" and "Shut up and let me go". I'm not the only one who is loving their sound because it charted number 1 on the UK singles chart on May 18th 2008. The album "We started Nothing" was released the day after on May 19th, 2008, which also charted the charts in the UK at number 1. Their sounds are slowly making their way over to the US, do you think they got what it takes to pursuade our American ears???

The Cool Kids of Ilinois

Cool Kids that just with they are. Their name fits them just right. With their dope lyrics and original style these guys are the future. The Cool Kids are a duo from Illinois. The duo consits of Miley Rocks and Chuck Inglish, who is origially from Detroit. They met in the year 2005 when famous producer LA Reid found a beat on the internet that Ingersoll had produced. They met to discuss the terms beat's sale, then just eventually recording for two hours. They were inspired by hip hop in the 1980s and artists like Eric B. & Rakim. Ingersoll began promoting the new duo’s material, and it was eventually booked by Josh Young of Flosstradamus for a DJ performance.
At this performance (in a venue called Town Hall Pub), the duo met the electronic musician ,Diplo, who offered to release a mixtape of their unreleased tracks titled Totally Flossed Out on his label Mad Decent, though it was eventually released on C.A.K.E. Recordings. They also received an offer from the DJ A-Trak to sign to his Fool’s Gold label, which they did, but only for one single.
Up until until now they have just been posting their music on their myspace page. Their record deal didn't come until their performances at the CMJ festival and the Pitchfork festival as well. The Cool Kids signed to Chocolate Industries, another independent label, which had previously been the label of rapper Lady Sovereign.
They have been and currently are on tour, opening for M.I.A. One of the duo’s singles, “Black Mags”, is featured in a late 2007 Rhapsody TV commercial.
In the same year, the group collaborated with Lil Wayne and DJ Benzi through the Internet on a track entitled “Gettin’ It”, which will reportedly appear on the DJ’s future album Get Right. The band has been featured in the video game NBA Live 08 with the song “88”, and in the episode “The First Cut Is the Deepest” from HBO’s TV series Entourage with the song “I Rock.” They were listed in Rolling Stone’s Ten Artists to Watch in 2008.
These guys are the hottest sound that is out and is sweeping the nation of hip-hop. With their influential sound of 80's hip-hop they are on their way to the top. Jazmine Sullivan

Jazmine Sullivan’s debut album, Fearless, came out September of last year and has already garnered the singer two hit singles, positive reviews, and a whopping five Grammy nominations—including Best New Artist. Sullivan has big competition in Adele, but she has a good chance of winning the award.
On first single, “Need U Bad,” one can hear the soul and yearning in her voice that separates her from the vast pool of female R&B sound-alikes. Supporter Missy Elliott is featured in the song’s official video singing along. Just as good is the fun follow-up single, “Bust Your Windows,” in which she breaks his car because he broke her heart. All of her songs seem to have a deep meaning more than material things. Jasmine is bring back the sound of street jazz, originated deep in Harlem. She is breaking the bariers and bustin' through with a classy new sound. Jasmine is one if the hottest new artist out right now. She might just take over the title "Queen of R&B Jazz". Listen and let me know what you think. She worked hard to make her dreams come true. What are some of your dreams, goals, or ambitions?
